How the effect is created
With binaural stimulation, each ear receives a tone with a slightly different frequency. The listener perceives a rhythmic difference that is not simply a physical beat played identically to both ears. Stereo separation is therefore central to the method.
Why headphones matter
Because the two ears need separate signals, headphones are typically used for binaural-beat protocols. This differs from an isochronic tone, where the amplitude of a sound is externally pulsed.
What research says
Clinical and experimental studies have investigated anxiety, cognition, sleep and meditative states. Findings vary by frequency, carrier sound, duration, population and outcome. Recent reviews describe potential benefits alongside meaningful limitations in study size and consistency.
What research does not say
A finding from one frequency or protocol should not be generalized to every recording. Likewise, research on binaural beats does not independently verify a branded commercial program merely because the product uses related terminology.

Research note
Scientific context in this build is based on recent PubMed-indexed research, including a 2026 systematic review of music/binaural-beat interventions and a 2026 systematic review/meta-analysis of theta binaural beats. Both support cautious, protocol-specific interpretation rather than universal claims.
